His main research interests are integration of signals at the single neuron level, functional mechanisms of neural networks in the spinal cord, and modulation of neurotransmitter receptors related to pain mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/phdneurobiology.sissa.it\/eng\/faculty\/andrea-nistri.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Find out more about professor Nistri here!<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>We had the honor to collaborate with one of the most experienced and prominent scientist in the field of Neurobiology:<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_257\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-257\" style=\"width: 202px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/neuroreg.uniri.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/lll.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-257\" src=\"http:\/\/neuroreg.uniri.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/lll.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-257\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Graham Nicholls, FRS, PhD, MD (1929-2023)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Graham_Nicholls\"><strong>John Graham Nicholls<\/strong><\/a>, FRS, was a british\/swiss physiologist. After his studies at King&#8217;s College in London, he earned his doctorate at the Department of biophysics, University of London in 1955. Besides University of London, he worked at some of the most prominent universities: Oxford, Harvard, Yale and Stanford. In 1983, he takes on the title of pharmacology professor at the Biozentrum university in Basel. Since the acquiring of the <em>emeritus<\/em> status in 1998, he took up the role of neurobiology professor at the International School of Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society, and the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) named a student scholarship after him.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Nicholls is perhaps best known for his research in the field of Neurobiology. He studied the synaptic transmissions in the neurons of invertebrates and mammals, as well as the origins of neuroregeneration, by using original experimental animal models. In the last several years, his main interest was the generation of the breathing rythm by the neural system. He is the author of the famous book &#8220;From Neuron to Brain&#8221; that became a staple textbook, as well as the &#8220;Pioneers of Neurobiology: My Brillint Eccentric Heroes&#8221;, where he brings forth his personal vision of the history of Neurobiology and its protagonists.<\/p>\n<p>We are honored to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Nicholls.
