After two years, the Department of Biotechnology finally opened its doors to children and
broader audience. Zrinko Baričević and Jelena Ban participated with their microscopy session
“Glowing cells” and children’s play “What can our brain do?”. With over 1000 visitors, of which
700 were children and students, the 2022 edition was the most successful one so far! More info can be found here!

This year’s Brain Awareness Week opened up with the introductory lecture by doc. dr. sc. Jelena Ban and mag. biotech. Zrinko Baričević, titled “Brain Assembly: development through the opossum model” („Sastavljanje mozga: razvoj kroz model oposuma“), which gave insight into basal brain functions and its composition, answering questions such as: how many cells are in the human brain?; How do neurons, astrocytes, microglia and oligodendrocytes function?; What is their role and how do they cooperate?
